I talked with this guy over the phone today. He had done some research, and was very nice. I upped my offer to $75.00, and told him to call me back if it didn't sell in a month. I also told him what he needed to photograph to help it sell. Turns out it came into his family in 1961, and was never used. It was just a piece of furniture, basically. His sister, who was supposed to get it from his 74 y/o mother, had painted it during the "antique-ing" craze of the 60's.

Also, I'm a West Coast / East Coast swing DJ, and he is a swing dancer! Turns out he knew who I was... so that was cool! We talked more about dancing than we did the machine.

You know... you're right, Sonny. I think I should give him a call and try to set up a viewing. You never know. I'm thinking there's nothing but run-of-the-mill BAs in there... but there could be that one cylinder that pays for the machine. I doubt it, but you never know what's lurking around.

That's true, they could have a real jewel lying around on the side. I found out when I bought some diamond discs from a CL ad recently that the seller just happened to have 29 Edison cylinders as well. It made an already good deal even better!

I don't see why people rush to ebay for replacement parts? Wyatts Musical Americana and Ron Sitko are two dealers that offer good quality reproduction parts and George V. sells all kinds of original parts. The prices are reasonable and the service is great.

While I'm bumping this thread... I agree. These folks have dedicated themselves to the upkeep and repair of these machines, and if I can throw business their way, I'll do it. But you have to admit, eBay is very convenient at times.

I have got some great prices from George V. in the past. There are certain items
that may be more affordable on Ebay however. I have not priced the grille thoroughly, I was just suggesting "off the cuff" that its not too expensive. Like Jerry mentioned, the grille should be metal on the Amberola 30 so its best to get as close as you can to the original state.
