I think your fiberglass idea should work fine for you. I would still use some silicone caulk however at the upper flange joint and around the flanges, where they seal against the wood. Could maybe also form some Bondo around the connection, or even a good healthy coat of JB Weld. Sounds messy, but done carefully and then painted, it could be a decent job. Both options are mechanically very strong. I suppose you could even wrap the joint in household door screen before coating, for added strength.

Thank you all for the responses! I have another question for you.... This machine came with a small box loaded with needles, the broken pieces, pin, and setscrew for the back bracket, the pieces that flaked off of the reproducer, some tiny ball bearings that I can only assume came from the reproducer, and this piece, which I can't identify. It looks oddly familiar to me, but I don't think it's for this machine, is it? I can't see anywhere it might have went....Thanks in advance!

I don't know what it is, but it isn't a part of the 8-12.

Thanks! I didn't think so, but I wanted to confirm that before I dumped it.

Don't dump them, they are for Orthophonic binders books. They hold the grommeted record sleeves. They are usually bent and yours are unusable. Very handy when restoring books and should be on your albums.

Ah! Thanks! What shape should it be? It looks like it should be the shape it is. The bends look too perfect and symmetrical. I'll hang onto it, in case I get albums.

They look just about right. The album spines are wood and once inserted in it a small brass brad nail secures it into place. Albums A and B are 12" and C through H are 10".

Ok, Thanks! I unfortunately only have the 1, and no albums... :( If anyone needs it, I'll happily pass it on.......

it looks like the holders on my albums. I have the 8 albums—the sleeves are in good shape, but unfortunately the covers on the spines are deteriorated on some of them and broken up into two or three pieces on a couple of them.
