I think it looks great, but admit it would not look right in my home. Needs the right setting, like maybe the Addams family home? Perhaps. Still like it though. Would make a nice home for Thing.

It's so bad that it's good! Kinda like some of the Mid-Century designs that were so over-the-top it went from weird to cool.

Not really any different from those weird EMG machines with the huge drooping papier mache horns, they look really absurd and scary to me... I guess the phrase: "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" is more true than we realize... :coffee:

You're brave! I absolutely agree, but have never been daring enough to stick my neck out!

As I said, beauty is in the eye of the beholder... Sound reproduction and listening enjoyment is another thing...

Just sounding beautiful will have to do in this case. :)

Hi Folks
I didn't know anything about this having been on Ebay. I bought it off of FB Marketplace. I'm sorry to hear that the sale went awry. I hate when that happens. I paid more than $150 for it but not a whole lot more. They weren't misrepresenting it as far as damage is concerned. They were concerned that the spring was broken. I think what the problem was is that they didn't know how to thread the crank onto the shaft so they assumed it was broken. They weren't wrong. The motor needs overhauling but I think the spring is intact. I'll have my guy give it a going over. The reproducer is in pieces and there is also some veneer damage on the lid and, like I mentioned, the grill is missing. That will be a bit of a stumbling block. I have a master carpenter in my area that could recreate one for me but I'd have to know what it looked like first.

They were kind enough to drive it up to me for no charge since they were visiting relatives this weekend not more than 10 miles away.

Again, I'm sorry to hear that the sale fell through for you. If it's any consolation it went to a good home. :) I have several Sonoras so it's in good company.

Kind regards,
Bill

As for it looking like it belongs in the Addams Family house... this is my house where the piece now resides in Upstate New York. You were a bit prophetic in your comment it seems. LOL
