You just need to look at the sellers "completed listings". Several tintypes were listed and sold in a row.

Thanks,,, it seems that intertwined in the thread I saw a reference in your post about another seller that has reproduction tintype but it was not this seller.

Just saw in the original post on Facebook Antique Phonograph Society that Oliver Berliner confirmed that this is indeed Emile Berliner for whatever it's worth..

I guess I'll be the one to point out the elephant in the room. The fellow in the other images is certainly the same person as the person looking at the Berliner. With all respect to Oliver, I have serious doubts that these pictures are of Emile.

I have to agree with you. The shape of his ears and nose is very different.

I agree with George and Jerry - the guy in the tintype is NOT Emile Berliner.

From a forensic photo analysis viewpoint there are some major differences:
The guy in the picture has totally different features from Emile. The guy in the pic has a shorter, wider nose, his brow shape is different, his cheek bones are different, his ear shape has a distinctive inner shape and structure, his hairline is different and his chin and lips are different... I definitely wouldn't buy it as authentic, just my opinion, no matter what Oliver said.

Oliver Berliner was born in Canada around 1929, which would make him 91, lots of room for error. Emile Berliner died on August 3, 1929 in Washington, D.C. - the same year Oliver was born... Obviously, Oliver did not know Emile from personal experience and since they lived in different locations, his knowledge of his grandfather can only be considered to be hearsay from other family members... just sayin'...

Looking at this chronologically....the Berliner Gramophone is in fact a later variation (post 1895) version with the improved three hole flywheel. Even if the Gramophone was brand new at the time.....Berliner, born 1851 would be in his mid 40's. Certainly does not look like a man in his mid 40's to me.

I agree on the age appearance, the guy in the tintype looks more like late 20s or early 30s.

Also, Emile was Jewish and he had those facial features of the prominent nose and his curly hair. The other guy certainly doesn't look Jewish (not that you can always tell by appearance).

I particularly like one of the other pics of this guy holding a Stevens Bicycle Gun. My dad had one of these when I was growing up and I don't know what he did with it...

let's hope the buyer at US $1,526.01 was Oliver if so it would have made him very happy ! perhaps he'll now buy the ones of his grandad playing the guitar and being in the Army and out hunting ! and he should get the rest of the album they came from an old family home perhaps
