I enlarged that pic as much as it would go on my screen and you know, I think that machine has an HMV No 4 soundbox on it. Wonder where it came from?

Hmm, I wouldn't pay much for that machine - but then again I see this kind of fake HMV a lot in the UK. It may get more since it's in the US :/

Really? I'd kill to find "half" of a Junior Monarch anywhere! It's not a particularly common machine and 99.9% of all the external horn machines that I see in shops and when I'm out and about are sadly Crapophones!

Even though this machine has plainly been messed with, it still shows some resemblance of an original machine and that is something I never see anywhere (in the UK).

Where then are all the HMVs that look like those two which Schweg posted further up in this thread? Those two are beautiful. I also recall you posting somewhere, (I think) an HMV with a wood music master that was really excellent.

In the US, the American equivalent, Victors MS, III IV and V are not exactly common or cheap but they do show up in good condition at prices many of us can afford if we stretch a bit, (maybe having to sell a few other treasures though).

BTW, I would not mind seeing pics of that one with the music master horn you posted once again, (if my recollection is correct). It'd be a good featured phono here too.

Its definitely a good idea to find a picture of the correct motor and commit it

And that's about what I got- about ½ of a Junior Monarch. There were some nice extras with it and the price was right, under $200, so I grabbed it at about 9:05 this morning. The sale stated at 9, and I was about 30th in line. Here are a few pics of the machine and the extras. I cleaned the case a bit but that's about it.

I'll post a few more once I get the stubborn turntable loose. As Bruce requested, Steve, please post some pics of the one you have so I can see the correct brake and speed control. Also, you've seen the crap-o-horn. The 2nd one is not an HMV horn but looks old. It has a bunch of little tweety birds all around the edges, decals of some sort, but it is not really in great shape paint-wise. It's really light, I think it's aluminum. Anyway, here ya go:

Well for less than $200, I think it's not a bad deal. A correct horn is findable, probably not a clean original "tweetybird" horns though.

The case has a real attractive graining and color.

$200 is almost a stupendous bargain! Even with the issues! Yes, the motor is 100% correct too. Crikey, I thought this machine was going to be more like $1000!!!!

Congratulations schweg on a great project machine. BTW, looking at the better pictures it is now evident to me that the corner mouldings have been replaced with new (that ironically match the Model 5 better!).
