Interesting thread...

The first cabinet, with the Cabriole legs is quite interesting... first one I've seen like it.

Which IX came first: footed or flat-bottom ?

My parents and older brother brought home a mahogany VV-IX and cabinet from a Maryland (Savage / Laurel area) estate sale around 1971.

I don't remember much about the cabinet, other than it seemed to "match" the Victrola very nicely, and the I think the feet of the Victrola might have fiot into cups on top of the cabinet. It had full-legnth double-doors, one of which had a wooden needle tray on the inside, near the top.

When my brother went off to college, he took the record cabinet with him, but left the Victrola at home...

The flat bottomed Victrola IX came before the footed one. The footed one came out in 1915. I have a couple of these cabinets myself, in oak and mahogany. They make a common machine like the VV IX, an elegant one.

Our IX has the "feet" and the "skinny" tone-arm with Exhibtion reproducer; tab brake, lever-type speed control, nickel hardware.

I always thought it "elegant"...

The flat-bottomed ones look somewhat "incomplete"...

I would assume the IX received the "fat tone arm" in 1917 ?

I'll have to bug my brother for pictures of the record cabinet.
