Perhaps there are more of these around than I realized with wooden tonearms.
My guess is the acoustic properties would be indiscernible from steel or pot
metal for that matter.

Are you serious?
I wasn't aware you had to be interested in buying a particular machine, to enquire about it, & perhaps learn a little for future reference- regardless of whether you can afford a $200 or $20,000 machine.
Actually, I found your entire comment quite rude. This ain't some exclusive country club for multi-millionaire snobs to gather and gossip about the pond scum

And who made you the judge of the posts here? Or did you appoint yourself since you are the current top poster on this board? If I posted a reply to every one of your posts that I objected to, I would be among the top posters too.
I find many of your posts to be rude, and I really don't give a ----- what you think.

Somebody needs to take some happy pills, or anger management classes.
Nobody made me anything, but questioning what machines someone can or can not afford, and being a smart ass about it IS rude. Plain and simple. This board is for the discussion of talking machines, and anyone can kick the tyres of any machine they wish to.
I didn't realise I had the highest post count either. I must have recently passed Davids count, which I suppose isn't a bad effort since he's been absent from the board for most of this year.
Do I get a little gold star?
If you're the type of person who worries about trivial things like post counts, perhaps you should have joined the board & become active sooner, instead of being part of the Dan brigade who seemed to think this board was some sort of internet evil.
Maybe you could also try kicking some tyres yourself. or show us what machines you can afford by doing a few feature phonographs.
Edit: But at least you can count on the rest of your Dan brigade (Estott & Phonojim) to tune in below.

GENTLEMEN: Go to your corners and take a rest. Do you want this to ends up like the UK board?

Calm down, guys. This forum is supposed to be about phonographs, not personalities.
BTW: the name on the soundbox looks like Pailey, whoever that was. Obviously an Exhibition knockoff though.

i was thinking it looked like "Halley" (pretty hard to tell, though). I agree that it doesn't go with the machine.

That is indeed a "Halley" sound box. Halley's Comet made an appearance in 1910, which probably gives an approximate date for this component. You'll find one pictured on page 142 of Antique Phonograph Accessories & Contraptions. There are shooting stars pictured on each side of the name, and rather mysteriously engraved inside is "Berlin - Petersburg - Mass".
I find the record cabinet far more enticing than the machine!
