I think there might be a mix-up regarding terms used in this post. Are you referring to the wooden "traveling arm" or the "horn support arm?"

The tone arm support is indeed made of wood (the traveling arm is as well...but that isn't anything unusal)

OK, now I get it... someone went to a lot of trouble to make that support arm out of wood...

They certainly did! But I have to admit, they did a nice job, it looks pretty cool...and I think I only paid $30 for it!
