The Thorens Reference was my dream turntable 25 years ago when I left school. The price then was about $25,000. Today the Thorens is a collector's item with a near fourfold value.
PS: I checked again. Original purchase price in 1982 was "only" about $10,000 (without tonearms). This makes it an even better investment.

I also like how on the first 2 ebay auctions, he says don't bother him with questions about them if you haven't read the "ads", and yet there's no description of the turntables beyond the make & model.

It is 180 pounds which is only a little more than the gramophone of 1908 I just got which is 130 pounds net weight.

Hah, you sure that isn't the Genesis Device from "Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan"?? Is that price just a mistake or out of thin air, or is that the actual going price for these contraptions I wonder.
