Although the Model R was intended exclusively for fine-groove usage, there is nothing wrong with using it (with the appropriate stylus of course) to play two-minute cylinders, provided these are black wax or celluloid. I now keep two Rs, one with a two-minute stylus and one with a four-minute; the latter has had its top plate replaced, so that I can easily tell them apart. Tracking in two-minute mode is no worse than that of a Model C, and the larger diaphragm gives a much fuller and rounder tone.
