There was a record album too. Now missing. Presumably the maker's name was on that similar to the Deccas.

Sounds like a similar arrangement to that of the Edison Bell 345G portable which I pictured recently on another thread, where the album had to be removed before the machine could be played with the lid closed.

Photo no11 reveals something wrong, or badly designed, the turntable is clearly oversized and blocks the horn mouth. The speed control part of the Garrard motor plate is on the air, clearly invading the sound path..! Pity! Otherwise it may have sounded greatly!

If this is original, then it's a very poor design. I vote for it being re-motored.

I agree with Barry. That's never right. It's either been re-motored or "assembled" by an enthusiast.

The GOLDRING SENIOR soundbox is interesting. A cross between a Meltrope and an Astra. It even has what looks like a chuck like the Meltrope IIIa.

I could be way off here, but I reckon that the original motor has been replaced with this Garrard, which, as it has the plated platform, would make it lay higher in the case than the original, so that with the record holder in place, the lid wouldn't close fully, so it's been discarded, along with the manufacturers transfer. Whatever has happened, this one's a no-no!

Definitely remotored.
The Garrard has been put in sideways to retain it as a front wind, and the picture above shows the crank hanging over the edge of the lid. That's something that would never have happened when they could have simply put the clips higher and contained the crank completely in the lid.

I agree. Well spotted, Shane!
