Funilly enough, when I was about ten I played a new LP belonging to my mother, (Pastoral Symphony) on a gramophone, using a piece of string to reduce the sound box weight.
I don't remember being too concerned about the fine strings of vinyl coming from the needle. Boy, was I in trouble when she tried to play it on a record player!!!!
