I've only seen the bumpers on the lower case, on larger machines there is often a little routed out depression to hold them.

All my Edisons & my Brunswick have them on the lid, as do most of my off brand machines.
All my HMVs on the other hand, have them on the base.

Thak you everyone for your kind words on this find. I agree with Phonofolks about loving the common ones too. As far as the felt buffers are concerned, on this machine there is a little circular routing in the wood where they are attached. So, at least for this one, they are in the correct spot. Tink, I do not know if that holds true for all IX's or not, I could see where they might have changed their positioning from time to time as changes were made to the model. However, I do not believe they would have put them on the top on one side and bottom on the other. I have the feeling on yours one of the felts decided to move to a different neighborhood

For what it is worth...my felt look to be original, vary worn and thinned, and they are on the cabinet, not the lid. John

The wood grain is amazing looking. I love when there are variations seen in the grains from one machine to another.
