VV-XVI; What are these buttons for?

I found this confirmation in one of the wonderful manuals available on the antiquephono.org site. The holes are present due to bracing which is screwed into the cabinet for support while the machine was crated and shipping. Once uncrated and the brace removed these buttons finished the back of the cabinet. The buttons were included in a "Outfit Package" which shipped inside the machine.
