At first I thought the cabinet was mahogany, but after putting bee's wax of the machine and wiping it down it looks like it is walnut I think but not for sure.

It's mahogany.

To be more clear, it's mahogany veneer on the flat panels. Solid components, such as the legs, appear to be a "lesser" wood, (poplar? gum?), which is not uncommon. It saved money!

Thanks Jerry for helping me clear that up. Top top I was sure was mahogany, most of my clocks are mahogany. The sides are a different cut of mahogany that I have not seen before. I think you are right about the solids and the legs.

The cabinetry in Brunswick machines is better than any other brand. That is a very pretty phonograph.

Well thanks bigshot, I can already see differences that would make the big 3 worried. I am going to break the cabinet down and refinish it to my liking. It is not the original finish. So this will give me ampule time consuming treat that I love. One piece at a time until she is complete. I had to crack it open today to see what was under there. It has a 4 hole oiling system with tube's leading to oil points. A 4 spring drive that has 2 spring drums on opposite sides driving a main shaft both at the same time. Each and every motor that I have worked on has a different setup as far as the the drive springs to drum to main shaft. Was this a patent thing or just that many improvements.

Brunswick machines are really great.. and the cabinetry is really nice. Good luck with the refinish... I am sure this one will take a long time to get perfect.
