That's a great point. Case in point, I met a collector recently at an antique shop. He saw the shirt I was wearing and made a comment about phonographs. (The shirt had a picture of an Edison Home phono on it.) I mentioned that I collect phonographs and he told me that he does too. He told me that he has collected since he was 10 years old and is in his late 60's now. He has over 200 phonographs in his collection and they are located in 3 different houses he owns here in Columbus, Ohio. I am going this week to have a look at his collection and am excited to see what he has among all those phonographs. Anyway, I asked him if he was a member of this forum and he laughed and said he has never owned a computer and never will.DrGregC wrote:There is a fine line here. If you are polling only the forum users, you are selecting a computer literate group which does not adequately represent the hobby as a whole. There are many folks over 65 in our hobby who simply do not use a computer or the internet. As a result, I think that the demographics would show an even higher number of older hobbyists.
It makes me wonder how many people like that are out there. I imagine it would take quite a long time to amass such a collection without the help from the internet!
