I’m dropping out of going. The seller has been taking offers ever since it was listed. She said she has been getting 30 to 40 calls a day about it. She also said that the first person to put cash only in her hand about her high offer will get it. The person behind him could be offering $1,000 more but won’t get it. She suggested being there around 3:00am if you want to be at the front of the line.
I just can’t get involved in a crazy sale like this. Who knows what’s going to happen. High offer is now around $5,000. Good luck to anyone who goes.

Sounds like a typical estate sale.
Correct! Show up the night before, or 3AM, to get your "street number", then show up an hour before the sale to exchange your street number for a "house number". Then wait in sub-zero temperatures until they open up and let in the first 10 people. Then watch the item you wanted being carried past you while you're waiting in line like a fool. Not playing that stupid game anymore. NOTHING I need that badly!

I agree 100%. This was an estate sale not an auction. She was taking names, phone numbers, and bids for over 10 days. She was calling people back looking for them to outbid the last bidder. An estate sale should have the items priced when you walk in. Your then free to buy it or make an offer. She made out like a bandit. I think this was the most I’ve ever heard of one of these selling for $7,000. That’s why I changed my mind about going.

Lots of sellers try to conduct a never-ending auction. When a fixed price is not quoted, I walk away from anything being offered for sale.
With specific regard to the Cylophone cabinet, I've had several of these and the $7,000 sale price (if that's what it was) was not completely out of line, they usually retail for $5500-$6500. But I don't recall seeing any for sale in the past few years, so who knows what the "market value" is?

I totally agree. As a person who conducts estate sales for a living and a licensed auctioneer, I find this practice abhorrent. You set your price. You quote your price to potential buyers and then let them decide whether they want to be first in line. This taking bids over the phone and running each of your customers up it's unconscionable. I guess that's why I am not a wealthy man ( but I can look myself in the mirror every morning).
