Thanks Mike. The bolts look in the right place. Where does the winding handle fit into the motor and would the hole in the deck near the tonearm pivot be the original position of the speed control?

Here is a deck-board above a Collaro D30 motor. I am afraid the hole positions would only have a chance of working if the winder emerged from the back of the case !

I should have thought the speed control would have been at 4.30 much as for the HMV 34.

Very interesting comment about the width of the case and I am sure you are right about the narrowness being the reason for the conduit offset. However, I have always thought it very strange as to why anyone would design an inherently unbalanced product !

As Mike rightly pointed out it would have been a Collaro D30. The Mk 10 is from 1929. When Ginn left EMG in late 29 / early 1930 he set about starting Expert to be in direct competition with his former company.

Quite a few of the early Expert machines from 1930 also have the same Collaro D30 motor. My pedestal Senior has the same motor and I understood from our friend, the Late Frank James, that my Expert was such an early example.

That's interesting. My Expert looks the same but wasn't there a different D30 with winder rotated? I've seen a different version but I can't recall where at the moment.

Have just measured the two holes in question, they are exactly 65mm centre to centre. Maybe this will either rule out the D30 or leave it open as a possibility.

Have just noticed in the picture of Grahams deck with the Collaro motor that the tonearm bearing is set much further forward from where the conduit emerges through the deck board. In mine the conduit is almost parallel with the back of the case which may explain why it is offset from the centreline.

Here are the approximate coordinates of the D30 motor hole fixing centres. Iain, your 65mm compares to the 102mm shown.

Here are a couple of adverts for Collaro motors for 1925 and 1930. It would seem that none of them would fit the bill with the possible exception of the M2 but hard to tell ? Click to enlarge.

There's no escutcheon mounting screw holes. The hole seems a bit small too. Perhaps an electric motor? I still can't match up the holes with a motor.
