I like the explaination of the matched impedance principle. Have not seen anything
like this in US Victor catalogs.

Suprised that in 1928 there is not even a whisper of electric reproduction. By 1929 with
RCA absorbing the Victor electronic reproduction was the norm.

When did electronic reproduction first appear abroad?

HMV used a lot of Victor masters for it's discs, so they were selling those that were electrically recorded almost immediately. I'm not sure exactly when the HMV plant set up it's first electric studios, but it would have been soon after Victor I'm sure.
Pathé in France started electrically recording in 1925, but I'm not sure what month.
Here in Australia, we didn't get our first pressing plant & studio until June 1926 (by Columbia, and now called Studio 301) and they recorded electrically from the start. From the beginning, Columbia was also recording & pressing for all the major Aussie labels like HMV, Zonophone, Regal, Parlophone etc, and later for Decca and a lot of lesser known Aussie and foreign labels.

We were getting the early Brunswick Panatropes & Columbia-Kolster machines out here almost immediately, but I'm not sure how early we started manufacturing similar machines here. It took Rexonola until 1931 to release theirs, but I'm sure other local companies would have produced something before then. If we started electric recording in 1926, there must have at least been electric pick-ups being made too.
I doubt HMV would have been far behind Victor with their electric reproducing machines either. I know HMV beat Victor in releasing their first changer, but like the 10-50 it was acoustic reproduction.

Apologies for dragging this thread back up from the dead, but the link to the catalogue at the top of the thread is still live, and the catalogue is amazing.

I have the 1930 catalogue reproduction, but the 1928 catalogue is better in that it has both the re-entrant range based on the No.5 sound box, and the older range based on the No.4.

I'm confused as to why there's no 162 or 192 in here, just the 161/171/181. Were the 162s not sold in Australia, or is the date wrong for them to be included?

Any chance of moving this thread into the UK machines section? I know it's an Australian catalogue, but they're clearly UK machines!
