Shattered cylinder woes

So I made an attempt to piece together my cylinder. It’s pretty bad. Two large fragments but one very comminuted piece - 9 fragments over all. I used painters tape inside to reinforce, which adheres enough but not so much as to damage the wax. I didn’t glue. I reinforced the tension with two rubber bands. My hope was to get thing aligned enough to play a portion of it - which was a no go. With the tape inside it would fit on my Concert mandrel, which wasn’t a big surprise. Maybe the sound could be pulled off with a laser? I read an article in the New York Times recently about someone who was doing this for the New York Public Library. Photos of my handwork (or lack there of) attached.
