Unfortunately I won't have access to the shop now. But I have finished most of my projects... so I don't really need the shop. The last big thing on my list is finishing that full barrel cabinet. I am going to go to the woodshop this week and continue working on it. I hope to have it finished before school starts in August.
I am able to play almost every format of music right now. I have a reel-to-reel tape deck, cassette deck, (threw out the 8 track player
), cd, vinyl, cylinder, and 78 rpm!
It sure is nice to have my own place, keep it exactly how I like, and not have to ask anyone about decoration/furniture choices

I hear ya! Before I semi retired my assistant got heat from our employer because he was on his cell constantly throughout the day… then I got heat because I never carried mine. I was a telephone answering service operator for 10 years during high school and college… so I’ve already talked a few lifetimes on the phone. I just consider it excess baggage to keep track of.

Apartment living has its pros and cons. I've lived in various apartments for the the last 40+ years, after I moved out of my parents' house.
As with any sound system, there may be compromises involving your neighbors. Some don't mind listening to their neighbors' music, others take the attitude, "if I have to listen to your damn music, then you should pay part of my rent, since you're (virtually) living in my apartment!"
This really hit home home in one apartment I lived in, nearly 25 years ago. For awhile we had an across the hall neighbor--an older guy nearing retirement. He taught school and was home all summer, normally wearing a frayed bathrobe and stale smelling pajamas--24/7.
I've always worked at home, and one day, during my lunch break, I played a couple of records on the Credenza I used to own. I remember I was playing Paul Whiteman's "Mississippi Mud" -- with a soft tone needle -- when the doorbell rang. (This neighbor even rang the doorbell with attitude. It was the two tone type: pressing it made it "bing" and releasing it made it "bong". When my other neighbors rang the doorbell, it went "bingbong." When this neighbor rang the door it went "Binggggg........Bonggggg........")
In any event, I opened the door and he stuck his head in and said: "Don't play THAT! That's the sh_t my father used to listen to! You don't actually like that music do you? Fey!!! Garbage! If I have to listen to your music, play something decent! You got any Gershwin? Classical, maybe? Not that Nazi Wagner! Hitler liked that music! Play some Gershwin!"
Not wanting to get into a fight with this guy, I decided to never to play my Credenza when he was at home, which meant that I never played the Credenza during the summer months. Fortunately, he moved out after about three years.

One of my favorite Victor Orthophonics ever released. Whiteman and Bing made magic with that record. That was a totally different world back then… and the lyrics were meant to be compliment and praise. Hard to convince folks now of that… and sadly folks today have any knowledge or give any tribute to our past.

My friend Sean lives in this building and when I began searching for an apartment I first applied to this building. About a week after I made some applications, I called the office and spoke with the building manager. Turns out I called just a few minutes after the folks above Sean turned in their keys (they left a month before their lease was up). So now I am living one floor directly above Sean
. Now his neighbor is an older man, probably in his late 80's. I think to-date he has knocked on Seans door 6 times telling us to shut the fu_k up
. (and the music wasn't even that loud!). So HOPEFULLY my next door neighbor isn't gonna complain too much. So far I haven't gotten any complaints
. I have a bunch of soft tone needles... so I think I should be okay. Although my B-250 is really loud... that mute ball is actually pretty handy
.
A few of the people here saw me moving the phonographs in and they asked questions about them. Of course everyone thinks they are cool until they hear the music
. I only have to worry about the neighbor on the other side of my bedroom... cause the wall the couch is on is the hallway. Soooo we will see how it goes. I might bring my portable down to the pool today and play some records.
I am excited.. its fun to be living on your own. Of course all the bills suck

The new apartment looks quite nice. I'm surprised so many of the phonographs fit nicely in there!
As far as noise in apartments, I thoroughly hate apartments & would rather live in a shack in the boondocks--noise is a factor. To hook up your rotary phone, try getting a used Xlink bluetooth gateway--it will plug into the 110vAC wall socket and then you pair it to your cell phone and plug your rotary phone into the other end of it. Great stuff, and it got my 1937 Western Electric 202 working again.
Sean now having that BI Graphophone in his apartment is going to be pretty loud if he ever decides to turn it on. I think if you have too many problems, thorn needles might be a good solution. They're not too bad.

Sean has 3 of my phonographs at the moment
(Columbia BI, zonophone concert, and Brunswick PR-148c). They’re mostly for decoration tho. He won’t use them much.

So far that hasn't been an issue. Learning how to practice quietly is a good skill to learn. I still haven't figured out how much I will practice in my apartment. It takes me about 2 minutes to just drive to the music building... Plus I can use the Steinway grand pianos if I am there.
