It looks to me like a piece of good quality homework around a Columbia portable. Still absolutely hideous, but far better than all the crapophones offered on the net. It has a decent arm at least.
I would like to see and hear a good HMV model 32 though. Rare as hell, but said to have great sound. I know of only one in existence with an over-restored case, non-original arm (off a 101, i.e. too long and not tracking correctly) and not in good working order, that I saw years ago in a shop in Hilversum. Afaik he sold it to a Japanese collector for a lot of money.
