picked up 2 boxes of nice orthophonics brunswicks and viva tonals today for 20 bucks
they were stored in a attic for many years and dusty
the otherdsy I ended up getting 7 royal blue columbias in a lot I found for 10.00
have lots to clean and sort through
5 of the royal blues were Benny goodmans
The Royal Blue Goodmans should be swell. I generally prefer this earlier stuff (1934-35) to the later Victors and red Columbias.

Those pre-swing Goodmans are among the best things he recorded as band leader imho. Often arranged by a young Glenn Miller with Jack Teagarden, vocal and 'bone, Billie Holiday on her first issued recordings, Benny (25 at the time) blowing his heart out, these are among my all time favorite large band recordings. Sound wise they are not the best (remember this was when the crisis was at its worst and records sold in hundreds at best), but musically they are absolutely top class.
