I've got about a 1929 to 1930 Grigsby Grunow motor out in the barn with a 12" platter on it--big old cast-iron thing-- but I don't have the rest of the record player. This is giving me ideas.

I wonder if there could ever be a distinction between a Frankenpone (something poorly assembled, to deceive or just to salvage and make functional) and a Parts-o-Phone, something imaginatively conceived and well executed, much like a good off-brand machine.
There seems to be a fashion to refurb and restore vintage Hi-Fi turntable decks, Rek-o-Kut and Gerrard for two examples, and mount them in/on massive high-density beautifully constructed custom plinths.

I can imagine exquisite Parts-o-Phones.
