Or could it be for and HMV console? HMVs of the mid twenties used a lock and key similar to those, isn't it?

Actually, you may be right.
The key shown on the Old Crank chart says "Victor" is embossed on that key, in the small area above the hole in the key.
Something the key Garrett posted has not.

I have noticed that the word Victor often accompanies the American HMV and Nipper trademark items like needle tins etc, so it's not surprising that it also appeared on what is apparently a VV-100 key, and I would assume the same applied to other American keys of this type.
Therefore the absence of "Victor" on this key would make sense for a British/European HMV.
I'm not sure if there's a way to tell if the Yale lock was manufactured in USA or a European factory, but if so that could help confirm its origin and potential models it was meant for.
