Because they don't want the hassle of packing and sending, maybe, or they have the same dislike of auction sites as you have of Facebook? Personally, I look at the "marketplace" section every day because so far I have bought three portable machines at very reasonable prices.
So it's only for local pick up? That's handy for me then as I doubt my area will throw much good stuff up. That part does look right.
