With EMG there is no such thing as "typical", especially considering they probably only made 10 of them anyway, but yes, I know what you mean.

Is this the EMG model where the horn is too large to fit through a 'standard' sized house door ? (Or am I just imagining that I read something like that some-where ?).

Depends on your door but yes, 33" diameter bell is too big to pass through most 2'9" (33") door openings with planted or rebated door stops to either side. Bear in mind also that an open door will lose you a further 1 and ½" in clear width of opening to pass anything through. However, I recall the size of horn was limited to 33" in order to specifically pass through a 2'9" door, so who knows? By the way I'm not saying they only made 10, I was simply joking about the lack of mass production when someone suggests there might have been a "standard" etc!

Yes, Steve, the of mention standard and EMG/Expert in the same sentence is incongruous, I doubt there are two identical EMGs or Experts, these were really cottage productions. As to the horn, wouldn't it pass by a regular door if disassembled? This is really an interesting machine in nice condition and with a great provenance, but the size of the horn limits the interest of prospective buyers. I would be tempted if I hadn't already one EMG and two Experts, and definitely no place to fit one like that unless I move to a larger house.

I recently moved to a bigger house but now it just feels small again. I wonder why!

The joint in the middle is typically found for the exported one. I saw several in Japan.

That's probably because there are far more of the "Export Model" 10B's in Japan than anywhere else in the world.

The export horn would indeed solve the issue of smaller doors. I don't know why I never thought of that. Grateful to have a 36" front door which made getting an Oversize in easily. But more importantly, this surely must be THE EMG gramophone, given the provenance. I'll see what photos I have from a year ago, when Graham took me to Ian's house. I wish I had the funds for this one - surely, the best of the best, and my ears can attest to the superb sound quality.
