Thanks for posting. I did some research and, as near as I can tell, BG's first recorded solo was in 1926 with the Ben Pollack band. "'Deed I Do" was recorded on December 17, 1926 in Chicago and features a BG solo toward the end of the side. It was released on Victor 20408. The band recorded "When I First Met Mary" Dec. 9, 1926, which was issued on Victor 20394. This was BG's first appearance on record but I don't know whether or not he solos on this side.

He does. BG was the clarinet guy at this job.

If any tests or parts from his first session with Pollack, in Sept. 1926 turn up. Those would count as his first appearance on record.
