There are some records that I dispair of being able to reproduce sucessfully by modern electrical means....DDs are one example that rumble is terrible, you can reduce it but then you reduce the bass so much to achieve it.

I've done it with relatively good results. Granted that YouTube does not so perfectly present it but here it is...

Not bad, but out of curiosity, what stylus did you use?

Those can work sometimes. I have a .7 mil conical for my Stanton 500 cartridge that I've tried with DD's, though as with most things, sometimes it works and sometimes it's too small and the skating becomes an issue, even with the lateral motion canceled out.

I also have a Stanton 500 with a .35 and .5 eliptical. Do you think the .7 conical would sound noticeably better, at least in some cases?

I kind of doubt it'd make much difference. I used to have the blue elliptical tip for the Stanton 500, and one thing is that it's cantilever is more delicate than the fairly robust white . 7 mil conical 'DJ' tip. And a conical tip probably better replicates an original Edison tip in shape.
