Thanks for the photos but I'm sure that won't work--doesn't match the original elbow that I have which is threaded. So the small end of the horn should also be threaded to screw into the elbow.

My horn has an internal thread by the way.

at best the brass horn is from a Stroh violin, at worse from a portable foghorn

I am so grateful to you for your suggestions. The horn has now been confirmed as being from a Stroh Vioin. There are three or four examples on the internet, like this one:
