If you posted the lid label in connection with your question about 2 min. & 4 min., note that the label is for a Type D machine. Yours is a Type E and is for 4 minute records only.

Below is a link to the mandrel shaft bushing you need-- The hole in it lines up with the oiler hole in the top of your casting-- The hardest part is getting the old mandrel bushing out- If your mandrel is frozen solid-- won't turn at all-- You will likely have to destroy the original bushing to get it out--- It can be tricky.

Some of the regular repair guys have a jig set up to remove that bearing-- I suspect Jerry Van (who has contributed to this post) could do it-- Also Phono-Phan (Ken Brekke)-- There are others. If you decide not to tackle it yourself, you can send just the top bedplate out to get it done.

Don't feel bad about the lid label; I have an Edison Standard the bedplate of which was originally cast as a D but assembled as a 2-minute C. It also has the combination type label on the lid. Perhaps this is normal? Can more experienced collectors shed some light on the labels here?

As Charles suggests, the lid label not matching the machine does not necessarily mean that you have the wrong lid. I suspect this was a common thing.

Just read it, very interesting So how many of you have a lid with a type D label?

Ok I thought I would give a update. I could not get the mandrel to move by hand. I used penetrating oil for 3 days on both sides of the bushing, with no luck.
So I thought I would try my grip wrench and got it to move, but still could not get it to move with my hands. Then with help I had the grip wrench moving the mandrel, and a aluminum rod and hammer on the other side. I was slowly able to get the shaft to move. And out she came. So as I am waiting for the new bushing I thought I would clean the bed plate.

Now my question is whats to use and best way to clean it?

Depending on its condition, I clean the finish with fine automotive rubbing compound, (being careful around the striping), then follow up with automotive wax.

do you use 0000 steel wool?
