It’s probably worth watching if you get a chance although the ‘expert’ doesn’t say much except a few flippant comments. I was just rather irritated that the African mask that followed it received much more air time. There is definitely a bias to the antiques roadshow but then I suppose I would like to have seen half a program dedicated to it so I’m biased. It would have been great to see it being assembled, better still working!

Quite curious find! I thought these things did not exist in real life, having seen only an old newspaper ad clip of it. If these machines were sold in any significant numbers, probably had the same fate as the alcohol-powered stirlingengine Paillard - most burned down. This Flamephone seems even more dangerous, with a wide flame plane that would easily flicker with the breeze and hit curtains or other flammable household items. Even the TV did not have the nerve to put it into action! It would be of interest to a collector of gramophones and fire extinguishers.

I’m not sure, however the full title is ‘Series 43, Windermere Jetty 1’. Incase of further episodes at that location.

Described as follows and a few things to look out for so you know you have the right episode:

I have noticed a few more gramophone and phonograph related items on the Antique Roadshow.

The referenced webpage indicates that the actual burner hardware could be installed on any gramophone. Are there any patent drawings to direct someone to make replicas? Also, can you imagine firing this up in a house that might have leaky gas fixtures or lighting?
