I have entertained pubs in the past with horn gramophones, but I get too nervous now of drunks accidentally breaking one of my precious records!

Belatedly, I'd like to thank all who contributed a narrative and/or pictures. It truly gladdens me to learn that fellow collectors share and "represent" (pardon the lingo) this music to the public.

I've found that, in my area at least, a group with the niche-interest of swing dancing have little to no interest in any music before the 1940's/1950's, and that they don't have much knowledge of the artists and songs of that period, either. It's frustrating, and I've given up any attempt to politely "educate" the DJ's concerning big band music. Thus, it's gratifying that I'm not some cuckoo who is seemingly the only one around savouring and sharing acoustic and early electric-era music.

No surprise to me. Some years ago I tried to set up a "joint-venture" with a pair of ladies, one of whom was a chef, and the other the owner of a downtown courtly building with a large salon seeking use. The idea was to offer classy evenings with gramophone music, dance and dinner. We then contacted a well established group of tango dancers in order to "probe the market". It turned out that they only dance specialised "tango" music, composed and recorded specifically for dance use. Their lack of knowledge and interest for *real* period tango was abysmal, and I even had to hear that a standard tango song is not really "danceable" according to their criteria (!!!).

And so our classy evenings project was shelved.

We were provided with almost a dozen examples of playing music on our antique machines in public. That was the point of the thread.

Youtube has nothing to do with it.

We are not "showing it off in public," but you evidently felt the need to advertise and "show off" your Youtube channel. You had a separate thread with a poll concerning your channel, but felt the need to foul this one up to "show off." Hope you're satisfied with your truly sad self-promotion.

It wasn't a self-promotion, and that was oddly harsh. i understand if you had a bad day or something like that but i don't think that is any reason to take it out on a kid that just wanted to show their phonograph, if i really wanted views i would post other things, but i just wanted to show my phonograph.

That was extremely rude and harsh of you to say. He is just a enthusiast like us who wants to show his stuff to the rest of us. The only thing that fouled up this thread was your mean comment which I’m sure you felt proud of to write. Bulling a kid just because he posts something you don’t agree with is shameful. You have no need to say things like that.
