Yes, the lever does both. The foot of that collar you slid on should be under a tongue that is in the front of the trunnion assembly. When you push the lever down, this tongue pushes down on that foot and lifts the Reproducer assembly.

Many many thanks for the pictures! I have it set up correctly now, and the reproducer lifts up and down perfectly. -Shane

Have you resolved the echo problem?

In re-reading this thread, I noticed that someone mentioned that the stylus in a reproducer of this type is conical. For the record, it isn't. Rather, the shaft is shaped like a rod with a spherical tip no larger than the diameter of the shaft. The profile fits right into the U-shaped groove of the record.

If your ball stylus still echoes, it is possible that it has worn to the point to where it is not coming in good contact with the bottom of the groove.
Here is a pic of a Amberola Diamond stylus taken with a SEM @ 200x that echoed like crazy but you couldn't see the wear with the naked eye.
