I respectfully disagree with his notion of Edison using a rubberized coating. What I believe that to be, is decomposed rubber and oil that has melted over the surface of the plate.

So I will just ask collectors who have taken the two bedplates apart --

Is there usually anything sandwiched between them?

I am talking about the later machines that don't have any obvious rubber washers or suchlike.

Not see this on the Triumph E's I have had and have never heard of this. The only thing that I can thing would need cause any vibration would be an imbalance is the governor weights or something stuck on a fast moving part that shouldn't be there....
