These machines have probably always been out there and on the market we just paid them no attention. It's like when you buy a new car thinking how cool it looks, and then you start noticing everyone else has the same car.

A salesman term for expensive cabinet
Most advertising & catalogues appear to refer to these Sonoras as "Period" models, but OrthoFan did find one reference to them being called "Art case" models......
Yes, after reading over solophoneman's post about how Sonora used the term "art" and "artistic" to describe their period models, on the earlier thread, I remembered seeing a
specific reference to "Sonora Art Model." After a little searching in the books and
archived newspapers sections of Google, came up with this:
http://books.google.com/books?id=r8EOAQ ... 22&f=false
I'm wondering if anyone has ever come across a copy of the "Art Model Catalog No. 19" ? (Was there ever an "Art Model Catalog No. 18" ... No. 17 ... etc

)
There are probably more newsprint references, but until the major newspapers open their archives to the public in FREE digital format, we'll have to cull through microfilm libraries to find them.

No one paid attention because everyone wanted a machine with a horn- or an upright: anything that could be immediately identified as a Talking Machine. The market for machines that look like pieces of furniture has been slow but may be picking up a bit.

I wonder if "Buckeye Troll" will return & post pictures of his newly acquired rare art case Sonora?
It would be interesting to compare it to the other Chippendale owned by another member.
I guess that can only happen if B.E.Troll and his Sonora actually exist
