Re: Recently Found Columbia Graphophone Type C
George,
Yep, it is one of my favorite cabinet styles.
Just my opinion, four Columbia machines with cabinets I just like to look at: GG, Exhibition C, first version of BC, all with virtually the same cabinet just slightly different in size, AD/HG and the AO
I think my overall favorite is the AD, all that bright nickel in dark oak cabinet. I think they should have produced that one in mahogany also.

Chuck!!
You can't forget the AA. Powerhouse cabinet packed in a small space. Unexpectedly ornate and wonderful.

Shawn,
You're right, it is probably the nicest small cabinet Columbia. I guess because it's so small in a sea of BIG machines around here it gets lost.

Re: Recently Found Columbia Graphophone Type C
Are there any 6 inch cylinders for sale for these machines? Listening tubes? Recorders? I would really like to complete this machine with a recorder and listening/recording tubes/recorder.

Regarding six inch cylinders, look at Kurt Nauck's auction catalogues that come out twice a year. He sells some rare stuff.

Re: Recently Found Columbia Graphophone Type C
This image is one half of a stereoview showing the stenographic department at Sears Roebuck in Chicago around the turn of the last century. Amazing to see hundreds of Type C Graphophones in use. Unfortunately it's printed as a half-tone so it's not as sharp as I would have wished.
Interestingly, all of the women in the picture are wearing their hair tied up in a bun on top of their heads. Obviously a company requirement.

I see a couple of Oliver typewriters in use as well. There are likely more, but I cannot see them.TinfoilPhono wrote: Mon Jan 12, 2026 5:13 pm This image is one half of a stereoview showing the stenographic department at Sears Roebuck in Chicago around the turn of the last century. Imagine that many people typing on Oliver machines in that large room. The din must have been near deafening!
