Thanks Steve for the update! I’m not really surprised.

Following the sudden removal from Ebay, expect this to reappear soon all gleaming and shiny with a start bid in excess of £600!
People often loose interest with sellers that play games. So much for my revised my snipe.

Has the seller informed you of his intention or is this a well-considered hunch?

My prediction, which I hope is wrong, is that the owner will destroy it. Who would ever expect just anyone to properly polish this horn?

The collection only element will surely leave the potential Japanese buyer disappointed

The relisted price started at £1000 but has already been revised to £650. So the game starts...

He demanded a £200 non-refundable deposit off me now if I wanted it for £600 this coming weekend but I had to pay the balance cash on collection. Given that he'd already removed the listing with the desire to increase the price by hyping it with a higher start bid when re-listed, I can't see how he could have lost in the interim, even if I'd failed to turn up to buy it in a couple of days time? Not that I would have done, of course. Anyway, I refused to comply with his deposit demand (maybe I'm a little too risk adverse?) so he took the hump and re-listed it anyway. You can all thank me afterwards but I'd urge any potential bidders to exercise extreme caution when dealing with this seller. As Jamie has said, he obviously likes to play games! :D

No, not really because the Japanese buyer(s) could easily arrange their own collections and freight shipping from their end. They are quite used to it!

No I wouldn’t have given the £200 non-refundable deposit. You are not being too risk adverse at all. It makes no difference to him whether you turned up or not, he’s still got the item on eBay or can re-list it. Supposing he gets an offer of £800 before you can visit? Is he going to expect you to pay the increased amount or you don’t get your deposit back!

That was exactly my reasoning for walking away based on his insistence that I pay a deposit now to secure it.

I've been in contact with the seller and he's had an offer of £600 from Japan if it is polished up first so the seller has withdrawn it with the intention of polishing it and then re-listing it at a start price which reflects the level of interest and highest offers received.

I see that he just did a sympathetic cleaning and not an all-out attempt at polishing. I'm happy to be incorrect in my forecast of doom :)

I think it would be advisable to have a closer inspection to see exactly what the seller has done ! Hopefully he hasn't used sandpaper !! Oh dear , the games some sellers will play when they have no idea what they are selling , but become greedy based on one of two snippets of info that comes their way. I see the re-listing describes the horn more accurately so somewhere in the meantime he must have learned that the horn is for a Style 14 as that was not mentioned in his initial listing. Dulcetto
