Well, Thank You all for your opinions. After reading the replies, doing more research on parts, etc., I just don't think this is a project for me. I don't have room or budget to make this an ongoing hobby, nor budget to fix this one up further.

Don't worry, I will NOT throw it away! Too cool for that. (Me and the phonograph  ) I will try to find a new home for it and the two records I have with it.

For years, I hauled around a dirty, beat up old case for a VV-VI that had almost no redeeming value. Not even a good motor. Over time I accumulated everything I needed to put it back together. And glad that I did- even though I had to buy another motor frame from George. The gearing was so grossly worn out that I felt that the old frame was probably the reason. The case has been cleaned and it has the bruises of a past life. And it will stay that way, but it will document it's past life. And it will play like new.
Just my 2 bits....

From what I can see, the machine seems to be all there minus (1) the governor weights, (2) felt, and (3) thumbscrew on reproducer (to hold needle). If the mainsprings are good and the machine winds and the platter turns, then getting the machine to run should cost well less than $100, especially if you do the work yourself. But there is a learning curve, not particularly steep, and if you don't have the time and inclination because of other interests, then sell the machine. You could consign it to a local auction. You should at least break even. I would say you would have a difficult time selling it on eBay unless you did "local pick up only" and a buyer was nearby, otherwise the shipping costs will kill any sale.

Ya, the reproducer needs a couple tension springs (I think that is what the parts guy called them, one broke already) and 3 new seals and new mica as well. I did get one quote for parts at about $85 plus shipping. And needles.

But I also need a fence out front, insulation above the back addition, and a plethora of other homeownership things. And I already overspent giving a face lift to the 1937 Philco radio I picked up recently.

Being on the eastern plains of Colorado, I kinda doubt I will find a buyer for it. So it may sit around awhile and eventually get done...but I would rather see it in a good home and used some way or another.
