If the pot metal is in good condition, it's fine. I have had two that had deteriorated spindles that wouldn't turn at all. I made duplicate spindles out of solid nylon rod and cut the grooves - they both work great now...

Good one Bob! My example appears to be an earlier version of the Repeat-o-graph. Not certain if it uses the thumb tack method. I'll check it out and report back. I didn't know my sketches could cause heart palpitations.
