Ken, I've never seen shorter boxes, but I suppose it's possible - however improbable.Phono-Phan wrote: Thu Apr 10, 2025 8:25 amThanks for the information George. Were there shorter boxes for these? None of the boxes with these records were shorter.phonogfp wrote: Thu Apr 10, 2025 7:09 am The short brown wax cylinders are likely 1892-1893 Columbia records with Washington DC announcements. Congratulations!

Part of it is that some of these guys have nothing better to do than to look all day, usually online.Garjen127 wrote: Wed Apr 09, 2025 9:57 pm I’m always amazed at just how much stuff you guys who are more experienced in the hobby are able to find. I’m constantly checking antique stores and I’ve only been able to find on poor condition Edison gold molded record. Congrats on your amazing haul!

He didn't find anything. It found him.I got a call from a guy that wanted to sell an Edison Home.
Well stated Ken. I don't know you very well, but I know you are highly spoken of. Good things sometimes come to good people.Garret,Phono-Phan wrote: Sat Apr 12, 2025 2:26 pm Part of it is that some of these guys have nothing better to do than to look all day, usually online.
The odds of finding something in an antique store are almost nil, but it can happen. I found a brass Victor orthophonic reproducer on a junk portable once about eight years ago. 20 bucks.

No, I don't look all day and/or online. After more than 40 years collecting and restoring old phonographs, things sometime find me. I have given away several phonographs over the years and countless parts to other collectors. Sometimes a good will gesture gets returned.
