I dont know about USA, but here in Australia, the cygnet & gem 8 panel horn was available in several colour option from the Edison factory.

GShane- yes, the ring adapter was cracked and (securely) glued back into place, so I got it for only $25. The model C was a fixer-upper I got off ebay, and I did the work myself.
Indeed, my machine has the sticker for the model D inside the lid. I got the machine, large horn, and box of cylinders for $200. We met up in a parking lot and I bought it out of the back of the guy's pickup truck. It looked like a drug deal happening. One of the better deals I've come across though!

Re: Edison Standard Model E
The model E Standard was strictly a four-minute machine, and about the same time, Edison made a model F, which I have. It came with combination gearing, as the Model D had, but with a model S reproducer sitting level over the mandrel. The model S had a larger diaphragm than the models C and H that came with a Standard Model D, but it had the turret-type stylus change of a model K
reproducer in it. Rather interesting model. The lid had a model D instruction sheet glued inside it, with another sheet glued face down over it, and a rubber-stamped F showing.
