WOW, you were really, really lucky that the comb teeth were not flying around the room. "Runs" like that can be nasty. I am not going to throw rocks, though. I can well imagine myself absent mindedly doing something like that.

While cleaning my room, I set a very heavy box on a 78, forgetting it was sitting there. Needless to say, it was in a lot of pieces when I found it again.

But I shouldn't be doing this, I'm way too young for senior moments!

How about my senior year in college? I start that Monday (unless Irene says different)

I had 3 very rare Carroll Gibbons HMV records from the late 1920s in near mint condition, with him playing some of his own compositions. I wanted to transfer these to digital to save them to posterity. My next door neighboor thought it to be the right moment to start using his power drill on our connecting wall. The headphone fell off the wall, setting a chain reaction in process, resulting in a jigsaw. Since then it has come up that I probably owned the only good copy of one of his very best performances. There is another one, but it is in so bad a condition that it cannot be released commercially. My copy was NOS.

I had a "senior" moment similar to Jim's, but I think I was about 4 or 5 at the time.
I had placed my favorite record at the time, Carmen Cavallaro's rendition of "Miami Beach Rhumba" on my bed in preparation for playing, and then SAT ON IT, which gave my older sister a story to tell with much glee.
While not rare, this disc was never re-issued with Cavallaro's other works, but in sympathy, I think my relatives bought every Cavallaro vinyl LP there was.
Not until the advent of the internet, probably about 20 years later, did I find another copy.
