WOW!
Thanks so much for sharing your amazing photos! I've never been lucky enough to see or attend any kind of gathering of machines & collectors. Simply amazing.

Re: Wayne MME phono show pics - 10-9-11
I noticed that lumiere hmv as soon as I got there and nearly bought it three times, each time I walked by, but just couldn't bring myself to take on another project after finally finishing that 8-8 that I recently posted photos of... for the same reason, I passed over a project 8-7 (the earlier ortho school machine) that someone was selling (which came with cabinet and motor, but little else)...
regarding the hmv, the seller even offered to drop the price in order to move it, and as I was kicking myself for passing it over on the way home I broke down and called him (had gotten his card) to say I'd take it, only to learn it had just sold right at the show's end to a guy from holland. so, apparently, back to europe - hopefully at least to a collector rather than a dealer... maybe it will appear on euro ebay.
it did need some work, though. the veneer on the cabinet is thick and consists of many separate squares rather than individual sheets, and most of them were lifting, some worse than others (in a couple spots, for example, there were needles actually stuck between the veneer and the cabinet). the lumiere (diaphragm, diffusor... not sure of the proper term) had several tears and was flaking. and the motor wouldn't wind... at first I thought it may have been a broken spring, but after listening to it repeatedly while winding, I wasn't certain whether it could have been something more serious preventing it from catching.
before reading a couple of the posts above, I had no idea that these were worth so much. I recall seeing one offered on the web site of a british dealer for, I think, about 500 eu and that one had none of the issues described above.
oh well, I shouldn't be buying anything anyway. it was definitely I great show, though... now I'm really wondering what I missed by not going during the past couple of years.

Hey, I'm in one of those pictures (but I'll leave it to you to guess which one!) I only bought records, no machines. I seriously thought about the project Opera, but apparently the machine, reproducer, and horn were owned by separate people, so trying to negotiate that hurdle wasn't worth it to me. Definitely a lot of fun, but I missed getting an OBL BA of Over There for $5 by about 10 seconds

You're welcome Brian. No hard feelings, I still got a nice group of clean Indestructibles for a good price. Hope your Dad enjoys the cylinder!brianu wrote:52089 wrote:but I missed getting an OBL BA of Over There for $5 by about 10 seconds

Thanks for the photos....it was on my calendar to finally attend this, but my wife having her car out of town and mine developing a coolant leak put an end to the trip. Wait until April.... John

Thanks for sharing the photos. Having attended the CAPS Show in August, shows like these are the best places to buy, sell, and trade phonograph hobby items. It also gives collectors a chance to meet and talk along with the opportunity to get better acquainted and educated about records, machines, and accessories.

Dangit, that was supposed to go on the Class M thread, but oh well. Congrats to anyone who made a good score that day!
