It was very scary sending that amount of money through the phone without being able to see the listing on a regular monitor and not knowing if it was a fraud!

I had a very similar experience with a couple of nice LARGE Victor Christmas posters that were listed with a BIN a few years ago and I was really worried I got scammed out of the money I sent after they didn't show up for a few weeks, especially since I had emailed the seller and paid extra for Express Mail. I did end up getting them after several emails to him asking if he had shipped them, but he sent them media mail and obviously shipping in a timely manner wasn't a priority for him. The good thing is, they ended up being much nicer than I was expecting and they were only $40 with shipping. It was worth the gamble!

Was your Fiancee as excited with the purchase as you were? While I was dating mine, I bought three phonographs to test her temperament, and it let her know what she was in for. It was a good test -- I'm still married 34 years later.

She likes phonographs (not as much as me) and is always with me when I am at the phonograph shows. We have been going out for 8 years so she knows ALL about them and me! hehe

Some of you have actually met her either at Union or Orlando. At the shows, she always gets her picture taken at my booth and I am left out!

Let me add my congratulations as well.

Surprises and deals can still be found and makes the hunt more enjoyable.

A few years ago a collector here in Indiana went to a farm yard sale and asked if they had any phonographs for sale.

The lady responded they did have one in the house, but it would be expensive. The collector asked what expensive meant to her and she responded $100.

He asked to see it anyway so she went back into the house and carried out a Class M.

Needless to say, the Class M found a new home that day.

Congrats from me too. That is a great find Steve. I'm sure the long drive up seemed endless while the return trip was not soo bad.

Way to go, Steve

Great machine & great price. Congratulations.
I'd love to know why the drawer is often missing in these...seems strange.
I'd also like to know what this bracket is for. Some kind of support/holder for the speaker tube?

Here are more pics of the carriage extension and the bracket.

It seems the bracket went on some sort of rods because there is a set screw on one side and a large thumb type set screw on the other side. Why would you need both unless there were two rods involved?

The extension has a plate on it that has a different type of darker metal that is very smooth (looks like a magnet) but not magnetic.

Sorry for the pics, my expensive camera is not very good for closeups! It could also be the photographer.....

They're certainly interesting extras. I wonder if the machine came out of a coin-slot Class M, and the carriage extention piece had something to do with the mechanical lift mechanism. Perhaps the odd bit of metal attached to it was an electrical contact or buffer that set the carriage return mechanism in motion. Never having seem a coin-slot M, I really dont know how any of that part worked, or if the same parts were used thoughout production or if variations/improvements occured with the coin-slot part of them.
The separate bracket has me beat. The set screw was obviously meant to be tightened & I assume kept it in a permanant place, while the thumb scew was there so a second rod could be easily removed.
In the picture I reposted, there seems to be two dimples on the side of the block, and the chnnel across the top of the block makes looks as if the block slid into something, or a second piece of metal clamped it down across the top. Weird.
Does the speaker tube fit the U shaped extention on the bracket properly, and are both holes in the bracket the same diametre?

The holes are same diameter and the "U" shape is only ½" which wouldn't accept a speaker tube. It also hs an "L" bracket screwed on it which is 1" alnong the casting and sticks out about ¾".

The darker plate on the carriage extension looks like a contactor of some sort. Maybe part of an electrical shut off device.
