Nice hiding your other phonograph treasures.... Thought I would be able to see them in the background......Instead all we get to see is a hurdy gurdy and an upright piano.....geez, I'm bored...lol

Wow what a fantastic find. This is the kind of thing that keeps us going. I'd like to see other people's lucky finds, no matter when they found them.

Naw, not interested in the lingerie.... you have room up there for a cot so I can sleep with the phonographs???

What a great find! This is what keeps a collector going. There's no comparison between finding a machine in the wild or buying the same machine at a show. Congratulations! Jerry

Thought some of you might like to see this 1901 Zonophone D a week later.

The cabinet finish was definitely not the same quality as the A/B/C models. I cleaned it carefully, but as the dirt came off, it became evident that portions of the finish were already gone. (The cabinet had stains on it that looked like it may have been exposed to dampness, oil, or whatever.) The remaining finish looked like shellac, and responded to lacquer thinner. (I believe the higher-priced models used a good quality varnish.) I removed what was left of the old shellac and refinished with shellac. I would have liked to save the original finish, but it was just too far gone.

Anyway, the rest of the machine cleaned up with various grades of steel wool, Nevr-Dull, OZ, and about 4 hours of elbow grease.

I was interested to discover that the sound box uses the same diaphragm and gaskets as Edison Automatic/C/H/K Reproducers, and early Columbia floating reproducers. That must have made it easier for repairmen to stock parts!

Thanks for sharing George. Looks great, just like you had planned. Looks like it was well kept in someone's house for 100 years. Doesn't look restored at all.
