What is the most unusual talking machine you've ever seen?

I've seen a Victor Monarch Deluxe (not a Monarch Special) but without the matching record cabinet. There's one in Nevada and one on the east coast. Are there others? Has anyone seen the matching cabinet? Jerry Blais

I've never seen a matching cabinet for the Deluxe Monarch. I did see an example of the machine in Missouri.

There is a wonderful deluxe record cabinet up here in Canada. However, it has a regular MS on top of it. The cabinet is sooo heavily carved.....it's a work of art. The most unusual machine I have seen is my Paillard hot-air. However, it has been discussed many times in other threads.

Internally, I think some of the machines which had to utilize true mechanical feed to get around patents are unusual. The first one that comes to my mind is the Aretino Machine with the traversing turntable. How many people have seen one of these in person? See it at the link below. Several years ago, Ray Phillips had pool side dinner party for those that traveled a long distance to attend the CAPS sale. He had a gold plated Class M, a Spectacle machine, and a Tinfoil. But I was most impressed with his Treadle machine. It was the same machine that Edison sent to his sister. It included the hand written note to the Edison Shipping Department requesting the machine be sent to her.
At the dinner, Nancy Phillips found out that our wedding anniversary was the next day so she insisted on sending the beautiful floral centerpiece home with me. I made the nine hundred mile trip back to Oregon a day later, hooked on to our camp trailer and went to the Oregon Coast. We were the only campers in the park with a beautiful floral arrangement. We sent a nice "thank you" note along with a photo to Ray and Nancy. Jerry Blais

that's really fascinating, especially the image of the inner workings... I had never heard of that sort of machine before.

another unusual one that came to mind was that jehovah's witness suitcase portable, that could function while being carried, with the case closed and the turntable and record spinning at a 90 degree angle to the ground. I don't have any photos, but these show up on ebay from time to time, usually selling for less than 500 as I remember.
