Yes the offer was for $250 a gentleman from Michigan offered to come relieve of the internal workings of the Victor and no that is not satisfying. I do have a standing offer from Ohio for $400 picked up I am not satisfied with that either. Yes it has been painted end of the world I know, people did lot's of silly things in the 60's probably under the influence and thought it was a great idea. It is sad someone defiled it but I don't believe I would be lucky to get $250 but hey you guys are the experts, right?

It's horrible when someone destroys a great Victrola by using brushed on latex paint. As my daughter would say - OMG !!!

Take the $400 - before they change their mind. That seems quite fair considering the machine needs to be refinished.

There's no reason to get snippy. People are giving their honest assesments. No one is blaming you for the fact that it was painted in the 60s. But just because it's not your fault, doesn't mean we should ignore the condition, and pay you what it would be worth if it was never paint. However, as far as your value, the paint is pretty close to the end of the world. But at least it wasn't sawed in half. That would be the end of the world as far as the machine is considered. It's a pretty soft market right now. With patience, a decent 130 (at least one that doesn't require stripping paint off of it) can be had for around $600. That's just where the market stands. Stripping paint off a machine takes quite a bit of effort. Depending on the condition of the finish when it was painted, it could be a total nightmare (if the finish was bad, it could be a total pain to get all of the paint out of the grain). Much worse than just a machine with a neglected finish that has to be redone. Most of us have purchased many machines over the years, in many different conditions. Not everyone is willing to take on that amount of work, and certainly not without a serious price reduction compare to a pristine machine. We're just sharing our current view of the market (you'll notice that no one that has comment on the price is rushing out to make an offer at that price...it's our assesment, not attempt at getting something cheap).

Personally, I echo the sentiment that at $400, you're pretty much topping out. Sure, the machine is relatively scarce with a production of about 6k. But even that isn't so outlandishly rare that people will snatch it up irrespective of the condition. They pop up with some frequency. This isn't a VV-XX or Auxetophone. Factor into it that it is identical to the XVII, which adds another 20k machines, and you see where we're going. There may be someone out there willing to pay a little bit more than $400, but you'll probably have to wait. If that's not worth your while, hang onto it until the economy rebounds. Before the economy tanked, you probably could have squeezed another $100 or two out of it. Right now, it's just not in the cards.
