If you are seriously interested in either, I would recommend two books:
The Perfect Portable Gramophone - His Master's Voice (by Dave Cooper). This one, however, appears to be OOP and is listed for crazy money on Amazon for used copies (one listed for over $900K!!!!). But you might be lucky. Keep in mind that it was about $20 new, so don't go overboard. The last sold on the 'bay went for $27.
His Master's Gramophone (by Brian Oakley & Christopher Proudfoot). This one is new and is an excellent book (on not just the portables).

Wow. That new book is going for the equivalent of $70 US! I guess, though, it's big, it's in color, and it is a specialty item. OK.
