No way! This is mahogany, or I'm turning in my XI.

Here's a catalogue page scanned ( in haste) from HMV Gramophones 1921-1936

I wasn't too sure. The colour was right for an oak 104, though I couldn't really make out too much that looked like oak grain except for the top of the left side & the left front upright, but then all the spots where the finish has worn off looks much more like oak than mahogany to me.
The Gramola next to it seems to have come out clearer than the 104...or maybe I just need glasses

Hi gramo,
I was looking at Altona's second shot, the logo on the underside of the lid, and the wood grain there sure looks like mahogany to me; it's the spitting image of my mahogany XI. I associate oak with a coarser grain pattern. But who knows?

lol, I know the machine Altona posted is mahogany. No doubt about it.
I was referring to the machine that was offered to "52089" at the show for $150, which he provided the link to. (13th photo down)

Looks like a nice little machine. I say $150 - $175, but then I'm a cheapskate. As to the criticism about its sound quality, who cares? I don't pretend that any of these phonographs have spectacular sound. Yes, large Orthophonics are nice and do sound good, but, it's like Model T Ford drivers discussing how fast their car is.

HA... yes, exactly.
